Roll Call System
Mobile Phone Procedure
At Beechwood School, we are committed to ensuring all our students receive the best education possible in a calm, safe and orderly environment. We believe that all our students are entitled to engaging, challenging, disruption free learning. We also support our students to develop socially and emotionally. This development is just as important as any academic progress or examination grades. Improving social skills and emotional development can best be done by talking to each other, interacting and developing real connections at break and lunchtime. To facilitate these connections, address increasing concerns over teen's mobile phone usage, create a digitally healthy, safe and calm school, whilst still allowing students to carry a mobile phone to contact home after or before school, we have introduced the following systems.
Roll Call
On arrival, students will line up in an allocated area of the playground where they will be met by the form tutor. Students’ uniform and equipment will be checked. Tutor groups will then move to their rooms for tutor time activities.
Mobile phones
All students will be required to hand in their mobile phones during roll call. They will be stored securely during school hours and returned at the end of the school day. If a student has a detention, their phone will be returned at the end of the detention.
If any student is found with their phone during school hours, it will be placed into the school safe until a parent or carer is able to collect it.
(NB Students with diabetes trackers will be able to keep their phones with them)
Punctuality to school
Students must be in school by 8.40 am. Any student who arrives after this time will have their mobile phone placed in the late box to be collected at the end of late detention on the same day.
