Home Study and Remote Learning
Home Study Key Information
At Beechwood, we believe that learning should continue beyond the classroom. We call our homework programme Home Study because it encourages students to develop important life-long skills including organisation, independence, resilience, and effective study habits. Alongside completing the work set by teachers, we encourage students to take ownership of their learning and engage in additional independent study where possible.
All Home Study is set through Microsoft Teams Assignments, which should be the first place students check each day.
Home Study Planners
To help students manage their workload effectively, we have created Home Study planners for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students. These planners have been:
- Shared directly with students
- Introduced during assemblies
- Discussed during form time
The planners provide a suggested weekly timetable to help students complete work before deadlines, allowing time to seek support from teachers if needed. Additional study slots throughout the week are also suggested along with a reminder to build in physical exercise at least 3 times a week (to improve health and wellbeing)
Please find planners for each of the key stages at the bottom of the page.
Online Learning Platforms
To support learning both in school and at home, we use a range of online learning platforms which you can find listed in the table below.
Sometimes, especially for older year groups who have exam work to submit, the work will be set as bookwork or to be submitted directly onto Microsoft Teams. Students must follow the instructions given by their teacher and click on the links if given.

Each platform has been carefully selected because it offers a variety of benefits and supports different aspects of your child's education.
Using a variety of platforms allows students to:
- Practise and reinforce key knowledge independently.
- Receive immediate feedback to help them improve.
- Access learning resources anytime and anywhere.
- Develop digital skills that are increasingly important for future education and employment.
- Experience different learning approaches that suit a range of subjects and learning styles.
Home Study Support
We understand that students may occasionally need additional support with their Home Study.
If your child is experiencing difficulties completing assignments, please encourage them to speak to their subject teacher or form tutor as soon as possible.
To recognise positive effort and engagement, students receive 5 Achievement Points whenever they demonstrate good effort in their Home Study. Where work is not completed on time or does not meet the expected standard, students will be required to attend a 30-minute Home Study detention to complete outstanding work.
For students who need further support with their Home Study, the school runs Home Study club in the ALC every day until 4pm. Here the students will have access to computers and support from 6th form mentors and Teaching Assistants.
Remote learning
If your child needs to work from home, it is important that they can continue their studies. They may be at home for any reason such as self-isolation, suspension, or a reduced timetable. They can access resources for all subjects and new work is added on a regular basis. It mirrors the work in school so that your child will not miss out.
Subject teachers, subject leaders, form tutors and DOSs monitor work completed and will provide feedback as appropriate on return.
